Tableman man accused of kidnapping doctor to stand trial


A Table­land man who al­leged­ly kid­napped a doc­tor from the car park of the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal has been com­mit­ted to stand tri­al in the High Court.

Ramesh Seushai, 39, was pros­e­cut­ed via pa­per com­mit­tal at the San Fer­nan­do First Court fol­low­ing which Se­nior Mag­is­trate Jo-Anne Con­nor ruled that the pros­e­cu­tion had made out a pri­ma fa­cie case against him.

Seushai was charged with three of­fences aris­ing out of the 2014 in­ci­dent, in­clud­ing kid­nap­ping, in­de­cent as­sault and rob­bery with vi­o­lence, and an ad­di­tion­al charge of pos­ses­sion of co­caine.

The 29-year-old doc­tor fin­ished her shift af­ter 10 pm on No­vem­ber 29, 2014 and en­tered her Kia Sportage which as parked at the Ac­ci­dent and Emer­gency car park.

A man en­tered her car, claim­ing he had a gun and threat­ened to kill her if she screamed. He robbed her of $6, her $2,200 cell­phone and $800 watch.

The man or­dered her to dri­ve out of the car park and was di­rect­ing her where to go while fondling her breasts. She, how­ev­er, crashed her van in­to a ve­hi­cle and the man alight­ed and ran off.

The man was sub­se­quent­ly ar­rest­ed and charged by PC Ja­son Dou­glas. Dur­ing the pro­ceed­ings which be­gan last Thurs­day, pros­e­cu­tor Cley­on Seedan ten­dered state­ments from eight wit­ness­es.

Seushai was not rep­re­sent­ed by an at­tor­ney.He was grant­ed $100,000 bail with mag­is­trate reg­is­trar ap­proval and a cash bail al­ter­na­tive of $20,000.
